Building & Defence sector aims to deepen customer expertise
Tibnor has established a new business area to serve customers in construction, infrastructure, as well as defence and protection. The goal of the new sector is to increase customer value and act as a strong partner that is easy to turn to when it comes to new construction or preparing for worst-case scenarios.
“The sales team within the business area aims to better identify customer needs; to understand what kinds of products and services they expect from a steel distributor and to respond to these expectations even more effectively. As a responsible operator, we strive to use materials efficiently and minimize waste. Through our pre-processing services, customers receive precisely cut and pre-fabricated steel for their own production. There will also be improvements to the Hyvinkää pre-processing services later this year, and we will share more details about those,” says Business Area Manager Joona Lehto.
Regarding stock products for the construction sector, Lehto says Tibnor wants to improve its offering even further. “Our goal is to expand our own stock assortment and increase product-specific volumes, enabling us to respond even more flexibly and efficiently to larger customer demands directly from our inventory.”
According to Lehto, it is beneficial to contact the distributor early in construction projects so that material availability can be secured together with the customer. At the same time, it can be assessed whether, for example, the group’s own pipe mills could be utilized in the projects.
Tibnor is also aiming to strengthen its position in defence-related projects. “In the Defence segment, our goal is to increase awareness and to be able to provide more services to operators in this sector – while also learning more about the industry and understanding its needs,” Lehto states.
“At the same time, the aim is, of course, to be involved in projects and strengthen Tibnor’s position in the market. We hope to engage in deeper dialogue with customers – we want to be their first and natural choice as a steel partner.”
Strengths: broad product range and group support
Tibnor’s extensive product range serves both Building and Defence sector customers in a versatile way. Naturally, in the construction sector, the product focus is on beams and hollow section tubes, along with their pre-processing services; in infrastructure, also sheet piles.
“For the Defence segment, we receive strong product support from within the group through sales of protective steels and specialist expertise. We can also offer a comprehensive range of pre-processing options for these steels. Our latest investment is a 50 kW fiber laser with beveling and drilling capabilities. For more information about these possibilities, you can contact Tibnor’s sales team or the undersigned,” Lehto adds.
Engaging Tibnor early in projects benefits the end customer in many ways. Unnecessary work can be avoided and costs reduced when material availability and schedules are clarified in advance. The environment also benefits, as there are fewer variables once the project is already underway.
