Tibnor emission data model
Tibnor is providing the CO2e footprint of material in our stock assortment. The number covers all emissions from production (A1-A3) and is based on our sourcing from the previous full year.
Tibnor’s emission data model holds information for product life cycle stages A1-A3. This is also known as a cradle-to-gate assessment, a model that assesses a product’s environmental footprint from raw materials extraction (cradle) until it leaves the factory (gate).
For the respective product, the weighted average emission intensity (kg CO2e per kg steel) is calculated based on supplier specific emissions and the relative share of volume per supplier.
The calculations consist of three levels:
- If an EPD exists, the total GWP (Global Warming Potential) value from the EPD is used
- If (1) is not applicable, crude steel emissions data on supplier-site level is used from the database “CRU Emissions Analysis Tool” and complemented with proxy emissions for rolling and further processing
- If none of (1) and (2) are applicable, global average crude steel emissions are used and complemented with proxy emissions for rolling and further processing
Newly published EPD values are continuously screened for and updated in the data model.
Changes in suppliers’ relative share of volumes are adjusted for annually.
Tibnor does not acknowledge any carbon offsetting in reported emission values.
